- Rollins, Dorothy A. Age 70 Dorothy A. Rollins, of Treynor, IA, passed away on Sunday, Feb. 17, 2019 at McAllen Heart Center in McAllen, TX. Dorothy was born on Oct. 22, 1948 in Omaha, NE, to David Egon and Dorothy (Rasmussen) Carlson. She grew up in Kennard, NE, and graduated from Blair High School in 1966. Dorothy later attended Metropolitan Community College in Omaha and then worked as a respiratory therapist. In 1983, Dorothy married Eugene (Gene) Rollins and moved to Treynor, IA. Through the years, Dorothy worked at Blair Hospital, Jennie Edmundson Hospital, Methodist Hospital and Children's Hospital. Dorothy loved to travel and often used it as an excuse to visit family and friends near and far. Dorothy and Gene traveled extensively, and early on you would often see them with their camper and horses in tow. Some of her favorite destinations included Crystal Pier in San Diego, CA; their cabin near Eureka Springs, AR; and their winter retreat near McAllen, TX. Dorothy also loved to collect antiques, grow flowers and watch the birds gather around her many bird feeders. Dorothy is survived by her husband of 35 years, Gene Rollins; her children, Russell (Shellie) Kerstetter of Shawnee, KS; and Ryan (Karen) Kerstetter of Papillion, NE; and six loving grandchildren, Anna, Ellie and Olivia Kerstetter, and Ciara, Amelia and Egon Kerstetter; as well as nieces, nephews and many friends. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, Dorothy and David Egon Carlson; and her sisters, Alice Carlson, Alda Zaracki, and Adla Nelson. A memorial luncheon and visitation will be announced at a later date. Memorials are suggested to Methodist Hospital in Omaha, NE, or sent to the family.Facebook
This blogs sole purpose has transitioned to one of keeping in touch with each other. Over the years it has been primarily for letting everyone know what is happening and also for promotion to add more folks to our Winter Texan family. The core of things has changed and we must change along with it. We still want to know what is happening with our friends no matter where they may be located.
