More Memories + One

Our internet connection is still terribly slow but I think these photos may upload. Verizon is working on it! Isn't that a saying we've all heard a time or two before. Here are a few more pictures from a few years ago plus one taken today.

If you look closely, you will see that behind Marge Soole's house is a bouncy house. It appears to be  on the lot behind where Eldon and Patty Hardekopf usually are. A few years back it would have been Sandy Williams lot and then Beverly Lokensgard. That house was pulled out and now there is one of the new mobiles on it. I do understand that the pool is pretty crowded with kids but I guess when you have a family park that would be expected. It's hot in Texas and the kids have summer vacation. That will change I suspect when school gets back in session.

This and That

It's been a while since I posted anything and that's because I really don't have much new news. I do know that the park was mowed and the weeds wacked and that made a big difference in how it looks. The Winter Texans who are visiting in the valley have driven through the park a couple of times but haven't been able to find Bea in the office. I don't exactly know why she is so hard to contact but I think perhaps she has been busy trying to get all the paperwork done with the new mobiles that are in the park.

I had intended to post some more pictures from past years but our internet connection the last two days has been absolutely terrible. We use a hot spot on our phone and tether the computers to it but both last night and tonight it is so slow as to be almost non-existent. It is extremely annoying to say the least. This is the first time this has happened and I'm not quite sure what is going on but I don't like it to say the least!

Dave and Mary Bruun were in Hawaii celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary and if you are on Facebook you can see some of the pictures that Mary has posted. There daughter and family were there with them and their daughter had arranged a very big surprise as Dave's siblings also came and I think that was a complete surprise to Mary and Dave.

If our internet connection gets back to normal I will be posting more pictures from by-gone days and as always, if you have news you'd like to share just let me know.

New Fence and Misc. Other Info

I have received some photos of the new fence that is going up at Magnolia Village. My first thought was, this isn't very secure. As I understand it, they have now added a 4' high woven wire fence behind the new vinyl one, It looks very nice but I would still wonder what would keep anyone from stepping on the rungs of the vinyl fence and hopping over it. I think even I could do that. Getting back out might not be so easy however. They are also replacing, or perhaps are done by now, the railroad ties (I think that's what they were) which were kind of on the north corner of Allen Hall. I'm not 100% clear on what it is, but what came to mind was big white slabs or something similar but I could be way off base on that.

Unfortunately I also have a picture of the overflowing dumpster again but see no reason to put that on the blog. It would seem there should be more than one dumpster with all the people who are now residents of Magnolia Village. I do remember, back in the day, not all that long ago when we had two dumpsters. I don't remember when it went to just one, but for a long time there were two.

I also do know that a lot of people are taking a kind of wait-and-see attitude but at the same time are actively checking out other parks. The RV restrooms and showers are closed as they are every summer and I do know that the sign that was put up about that had to be in both English and Spanish. It stated that this is now the off-season and those restrooms are just for RVers.

Memories

I was looking through some of my Magnolia Park photos and I thought it might be kind of fun to put some photos from the past on. I most likely will do this off and on, just for a change of pace. As I looked at these they brought back lots of good memories.

4th of July Potluck

I received these photos from Cindy Peterson today. They had a potluck up in Little Hall but she said the gathering was small, 22 adults and three children.
It's not too late to say Happy 4th of July to everyone. We've just been watching the Capitol 4th on PBS and now we are watching the Macy's 4th of July celebration. Lots of fireworks!!

Health Updates

I've been checking with most of the people who have had health procedures or issues that I am aware of and just thought I'd give you a few updates.

Bernie Nagle is having more tests as I understand it. This has been a LONG ordeal for the Nagels and we wish him well.

I checked with Susan Van Houweling yesterday and she told me that Myron is doing okay. They take it one day at a time. I thought he was looking good in the last couple of pictures I've seen of him at the Misfeldt party. For those of you who don't know, Myron was a farmer before he retired and farmers, unfortunately because of their occupation, often will run into respiratory as well as other health issues. I've often said that I could never be a farmer. You are totally subject to the weather over which you have no control. This season here in Wisconsin as well as most other mid-west states the weather has been absolutely terrible. Here it is July and we have fields around here that have not been planted and hay that has not been cut because it is just too darn wet. We do have other farmers or retired farmers in the park and I wonder how they are doing this spring, and now summer in this year with so much rain.

Connie Dziuk told me that her knee is doing okay but she does still have the infection. That's a bummer. I hope that clears up real soon.

Cindy Peterson is undergoing therapy and it's going very well. She said the whole journey wasn't as bad as she had anticipated. That's a good thing to hear, much better than if it had been worse than she had expected.

Don Harper is also doing therapy and Marty told me he is doing very well but gets tired. I would think that probably all of these people are finding that their procedures took a lot out of them. I hope they are all being sensible and not overdoing it.

I am thinking that Anita Nelson is doing okay as well as I have not heard anything to the contrary and I am also presuming that Pecan Bill is also still doing well.

We are all rather like a family as a lot of us have been saying for a long time and in spite of all the changes that are going on in the park, we still can keep in touch with and be concerned about our fellow residents.

As always, if you have something you'd like posted, just let me know. My email is in the directory or texts work as well.

Misfeldt 165th Party Group Photo

Today Susan Van Houweling sent me this group photo taken at LeRoy and Elaine's birthday bash. It's a great photo and includes people some of  whom I have not seen for several years. It was nice to see Judy Jensen, Kay Voss, Dorothy Wendt, Erv & Holly Hagen, Shirley Wiese, Pat Leber, and Spike & Elaine Wingert. There are four or five people that I do not know. Look at the smiles on all their faces. They were having fun, that's for sure!
