Johnny Ray Gomez performed at our park yesterday afternoon and it was wonderful! You might suppose because of his name that he was a local boy but actually he is from Omaha Nebraska. He is an accordionist/singer/comedian and is proficient at all three.
My husband, Butch surprised me with the fact that we had seen him perform before in Aurora Nebraska at the country club. I did not remember it at all. We lived in Nebraska from 1975-1979. Gee, I wonder why it slipped my mind! 40 years ago!
Another surprise was we paid $12 to see that show 40 years ago.
This blogs sole purpose has transitioned to one of keeping in touch with each other. Over the years it has been primarily for letting everyone know what is happening and also for promotion to add more folks to our Winter Texan family. The core of things has changed and we must change along with it. We still want to know what is happening with our friends no matter where they may be located. So continue to let us know where you are and what is on your plate.

2017-First Steak Fry
Dick and Leslie Cleaveland chaired the first steak fry of the season. It went off without a hitch and everyone was served in about 5 minutes time. Here are pictures of the event.
The volunteers who take on this event do a wonderful and amazing job. They all work together very well.

New managers.....And other stuff
We have a couple in the park who are considering a manager's position here at Magnolia Village. We hope it all works out and if it does we should be getting a formal introduction soon.
Things are always lively around here and now is no exception. The Jam was this afternoon and it brings many people into Allen Hall to listen to the music makers. They can enjoy lunch before it starts and then they get a treat part way through.
And if you plan to burn up all those calories by walking around the village I can tell you the mileage. To walk around the perimeter 2 times it adds up to 1.2 miles. Or if you prefer walking one time on every street you will rack up 1.2 miles. I prefer the every street one. Every bit helps.
Confucious says: It does not matter how slow you go, it only matters that you do not stop.
It is difficult to keep up on all the activities in the park but when you are on your walk you can stop in Allen Hall long enough to check out the whiteboard and see the activities of the day. If there isn't something on that board to interest you, you are not trying!
I am still working on a slide show for Show and Tell Sunday. Watch for the announcement. It will take place in early March.
And here are a couple of photo's from years past.
Taken in Monterey Mexico. Not sure of the year but guessing 2009? If anyone knows for sure let me know.

Quilting has been going on in this park for a long time. None of these ladies are currently in the park but we remember them and their wonderful work. Taken in 2010

I am remiss...
I have been remiss in my blogging duties. But I will tell you what has had my attention. Butch and I have been coming to South Texas and Magnolia since at least 2000. I like to take pictures and in that 17 year period of time, I have taken a very large number of photos. I have been sorting them in preparation for Show and Tell day that happens the first part of March each year. I am preparing a slide show that I will display on a 26 inch (?) TV in Allen Hall. I am looking forward to it.
I may not get to show them all in one day. We are getting older and we lose our attention and even doze off sometimes so we will see how it goes.
I picked out 3 pictures to give a tiny preview and I will continue to do that every week or so until the big day.
Sugar cane that has been harvested.
One year as we were coming south on HWY 281 this HEB truck passed us and we said, "OKAY!!".

Many ways to stay...
There are a variety of ways to travel south and stay for the winter and here are a few choices that are staying in our park. The long and the short of it.

This and that
This is the time of year when things settle into the winter South Texas season and people enjoy their activities of choice. The list of things we can do is simply too long for me to tick off here but you can trust that if you land in our park you will find something you like to do.
We are aware that our friends and neighbors we left up north may be experiencing an ice storm this weekend and it reinforces our reasons for being here. Even more so when we learn of falls on slick streets and sidewalks and fender benders with cars and trucks. It has been so long since I have walked on slick surfaces I am not sure I could do it! And what's more, I do not want to!
The weeks fly by with ever increasing speed and soon many of our residents will be participating in the winter senior Olympics. The events are spawned from the activities we all take part in like shuffleboard, beanbags, darts, pool and several different card games. There are playoffs to see who will be representing our park and then the week in February when all the events take place will be when we see who comes out the winners.
And now for something completely different.
