Nellie L. Oswald Obituary

Nellie L. Oswald 1923—2017
Nellie L. Oswald, 94, of Rockford, passed away Nov. 2, 2017, after a long illness. She was born in Rockford on October 27, 1923, to Isadore and Gerda Olson. After graduating from Harlem High School, Nellie worked as a secretary to the principal until her marriage to Jack in April 1945. They lived in San Diego for a short time when Jack was in the Marines, and then returned to the Rockford area to build a home on the river and raise their three children. Nellie is survived by her children, Lynn (Cathy) Oswald, Gayle (Ellwyn) Englof, and Julie (Richard) Harvey; grandchildren, Jason (Missy) Oswald, David (Lindsey) Oswald, Ila (Marco Bernasconi) Englof, Carla (Andrew) Ladd, Nicole (Scott), and Dustin (Lauren) Fiepke; 9 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Jack, and brothers, Norman and Gordon Olson. Nellie's parents were founding members of Grace Lutheran Church in Loves Park, where she spent her entire life. She was active in women's circles and sang in the church choir. "Oney" cherished her family and was a devoted grandmother, as all of her grandkids will attest. The family is grateful that Oney can now be at peace and join Papa in Heaven.
Nellie's life will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday, November 16, at Grace Lutheran Church, 343 Grand Ave., Loves Park, with visitation from 9 a.m. until time of service. Officiated by Rev. Brent Dahlseng, with a lunch afterward. Memorials to Grace Lutheran Church or Wesley Willows Good Samaritan Fund. Arrangements by Anderson-Long-Klontz Funeral Home & Cremation Services Ltd.
