This blogs sole purpose has transitioned to one of keeping in touch with each other. Over the years it has been primarily for letting everyone know what is happening and also for promotion to add more folks to our Winter Texan family. The core of things has changed and we must change along with it. We still want to know what is happening with our friends no matter where they may be located. So continue to let us know where you are and what is on your plate.

South Texas Polar Bear Club
A group of Magnolia park residents spoke up last Tuesday and said they were going to start the first South Texas Polar Bear Club and jump in the pool if it snowed. If the forecast is correct they better find their swimsuits and make their plans. We could get as much as an inch of snow!!
I told them I would be there with my parka on to take their picture. At the time I thought there was a slim chance and so did they although I have seen it snow here before and many of them have not. So will we have some once in a lifetime pictures? Stay tuned to see just how gutsy these seniors can be.
Seriously, winter has come and smacked us in the face. Yesterday was cold and most of us stayed in or quickly ventured to one of the halls for a game of cards or pool but today could be even worse as they say we could get some precipitation starting about noon. And that puts a whole different spin on things no pun intended. When it is slick underfoot we are all of an age where caution is called for. Falls are a serious business and sometimes it can take months to recover from one. So if you really must get to the pool to jump in it, some tricks from years past remembered is to wear a pair of old socks over your shoes to give you some traction or sprinkle some kitty litter ahead of you as you walk. Wear old golf shoes, the ones with cleats. New golf shoes would increase your chance of a fall because the cleats are plastic meant to grip on grass not ice. If indeed we must deal with ice the best bet is to not. Stay inside till the thaw takes place and since we are in sunny South Texas that should not take too long...maybe Saturday?
