Show & Tell

Here are a few photos from the Show and Tell that took place in Allen Hall today. These items were all made by folks here in the park. The "Tank" was made by Larry Ergen and "crew" and the "car" by Duane Ergen.

Steak Feed

Here are a few photos from our steak feed this evening. It is amazing how well this event is run. From start to finish the cooking of 127 steaks took less than 40 minutes. First they do the well-done and then they start on the rest of them. Each of the crew has their own job and they all know what they are doing. It is a "well-oiled machine." The rest of us know what to do too . . . .EAT!

Park Photos

As I was walking around the park this morning I saw this flag flying at Canadian Larry and Cathy's house. It is called a Friendship Flag and it looked so nice flying in the wind.

The other day I saw this yellow rose behind Peggy and Donn's house. When I took the picture it was just a bud but I'm betting it's opened up by now.

Another Parrot

Last Sunday morning there were two of these Red-crowned Parrots perched right above our 5th wheel here in the park. This is the closest I have ever been to one!

Bird of Paradise

I took this in front of Roy and Shirley Benner's home a week or so ago. It is called Bird of Paradise (I think) and if you look at it carefully it does look like a bird.

Camping with kids tip

I read this in the RV newsletter and thought it worthy of sharing. I know my great-grands would have a blast doing this scavenger hunt.

President's Day Presentation

Here are some photos from the program this morning and I want to thank Joyce Kelly for sending me the one with the Choraliers. It would have been a bit hard for me to get a photo and play the piano all at one time so I really do appreciate it that Joyce was able to do that.Thanks to Larry Ergen, Deral Rogers and Abe Wolfe for their help in making the morning special. Also thanks to Pat Jordan and Mamie Havelka for producing the Court House and last but certainly not least, thanks to the Choraliers who gave up a couple of Monday mornings so we could practice. I thought they sounded great and told them so. When we practiced I told them I was pretty impressed and by now, they all know I don't impress very easily!!

Anniversary/Valentine Celebration

Some photos from our Anniversary and Valentine Celebration today. Dave & Sue Greening and Dave & Mary Bruun were the honored guests both celebrating 50 years of marriage this year. We say congratulations to both couples and best wishes for much happiness in the years to come!

Bluegrass Band

Just a few photos from the Bluegrass Band entertainment this afternoon. Our own Jay Kelly is on the fiddle and this group gets together and jams every Monday afternoon in Allen Hall around 4:00 in the afternoon. All are welcome who would like to come to listen. Today there was a free-will offering and they collected more than $500 to be donated to St. Jude. They announced that this season they will be able to donate more than $20,000 from the donations that they have collected. What a great thing that they are doing!!

More Parakeets and Parrots

This morning the Green Parakeets were back on the electrical wire out by Allen Hall above the highway. There was a whole flock of them perched on the wire and this shows just a few.

Yesterday morning the Red-crowned Parrots were taking a break down just off of Pecos Street. The last few mornings and evenings there have been large flocks flying over. Both of these were taken sometime between 7:30 and 8:00 AM, two separate mornings.

Yard Art

Dave & Sue have a couple of pieces of yard art which caught my eye as I was out and about.

Miss Piggy

I met this pig on my travels around the park. She (I assume she is a she) is residing on Chet and Irma's porch ready to greet all who stop by. I thought she was pretty darn cute.

Marianne Warner Obituary

Marianne Warner

1928–2019

Owatonna—Marianne Catherine (Seykora) Warner, age 90, of Owatonna, passed away February 2, 2019, with her family at her side.

Friends may greet the family 4-8:00 PM Tuesday, February 5, 2019 at the Brick Meger Funeral Home and one hour prior to the funeral Mass. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 AM Wednesday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Owatonna. On Tuesday there will be a parish rosary recited at the funeral home at 3:45 PM before the visitation.

Marianne was born February 25, 1928 in a Somerset Township farmhouse, the daughter of John and Elizabeth (Steinkemper) Seykora.

She met her future husband, Alex Warner, when he was part of the other couple on a double date. The two were later married June 1, 1948 at St. Joseph's Church in Owatonna making her home on a farm near Pratt.

She had a 58-year love affair with her husband, Alex. Since 1979, they spent winters in South Texas and the last 12 years she went alone. She enjoyed traveling. She went to Alaska and Hawaii, which were gifts from her children. Also, Switzerland, Austria, France, Germany, Italy, Mexico and Ireland. She enjoyed watching sports, especially those her family participated in and was an avid fan of the Vikings and the Twins. She loved playing dominoes and card games like

Hand and Foot, Pinochle and 500 with family and friends. Marianne was a member of Pratt Progressive Extension Club, Catholic Workman and St. Isadore's Guild. She was a 4-H leader and in World War II, she was a member of the Ground Observer Corps whose duty it was to spot planes.

Marianne enjoyed being a housewife, caterer, and an amazing baker renowned for baking wedding cakes, breads and kolackys.

Survivors include her seven children, Terry (Patty) of Owatonna, Sharon of Arizona, Debra (Randal) Ryan of Hager City, WI, Brian (Michele) of Owatonna, Scott (Karen Carroll) of Denver, CO, Alison of

Ketchum, ID and Bradley of Denton, TX. Marianne is also survived by her 12 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren and 2 great, great grandchildren. Sisters, Genevieve Webster and Donna Carlton, sisters-in-law, Jan Seykora, Betty Seykora, and Marie Warner and numerous nieces and nephews.

In 2015, she lost her best friend and sister, Bunny Butler.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Alexander P. Warner, parents John and Elizabeth Seykora, her brothers, Richard, Robert and John Seykora, sister, Bunny Butler, Granddaughter Lacey Warner.

She will be buried in Sacred Heart Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Mary's School and Allina Hospice in Owatonna. For more information or to leave an online condolence message go to www.brick-megerfuneralhome.com

Magnolia Birds

When I was out on my morning walk this morning I found these birds.

Red-crowned Parrot seen in back of Pecos Street. That seems to be their favorite area to perch early in the morning. This morning there were just two that landed but a bunch more flew over. I took this photo at 8:03

These are Green Parakeets. There was a whole bunch of them perched on the electric wire above Business 83 more or less in front of the pool. There appeared to be grooming each other so it would seem that spring is in the air.

This is a Loggerhead Shrike. I see it almost every morning back on Cherry.

These last two is the same bird, just two different shots. It is a Golden-fronted Woodpecker. They are one of the most common birds down here in the Rio Grande Valley. I took this tonight about 5:30 and as you can see, now the sky is blue whereas this morning it was very dark and cloudy.
