This and That

It seems like when it rains it pours, so to speak. The whole Corona Virus situation is a burden to everyone no matter where we live and now the people in Iowa got hit by a really BAD storm, a Derecho which is basically very bad straight-line winds. This happened yesterday and when I heard it mentioned last evening I called Barb Brooker to find out how they were doing. Well, they got hit and hit hard. Most of you read Barb's blog and you do need to take a look at it to see some of what happened in their area. I am thinking that there are certainly other former Magnolia residents who were probably also hit, such as Don & Marty Harper and perhaps Lloyd and Lavonne Linn. Raiders live not far from that area too and I really don't know how wide a swath this storm had but it was bad!! If I hear from anyone I will post it.

I read an interesting article in the Monitor yesterday (on line) and it discussed what the upcoming Winter Texan season might be like. It sounds like it may be too early to tell whether folks will travel to Texas, or anywhere as far as that goes, or stay home. We have made the decision that we are not going to sit up here in Central Wisconsin and look at the snow piling up in the yard and having to put our boots, gloves and hats on everytime we want to go somewhere so we will be heading south. We are not great socializers and we don't go out to eat and we would rather look out the window and see the sun and feel the much warmer temperatures than we would have back here. Apparently the ones that are really up in the air are the Canadians. There is much uncertainty about what they will be able to do because of their insurance for one thing. I don't believe the Covid situation is as bad in Canada as it is here in the US and who can blame them for perhaps staying home a season. You know when this all started I foolishly thought that by fall this would all be over and things would be getting back to normal. Well, that obviously hasn't happened! We don't like the darn things but we wear our masks everywhere and wash our hands and use wipes and hand sanitizer. None of us in our age group want to catch this very nasty disease that's for sure.

We are keeping busy with our various projects which include mowing the lawn about once a week. We need rain rather badly but it is not yet at the critical stage. Jim has three colonies of bees and is going to bring in some of the honey starting tomorrow. It's nothing like the old days when he had several bee yards full of colonies and lots of honey to extract. Three colonies are just enough for an "older gentleman" to take care of and yet not be too much work.

If you have news you would like to share please send it to me and I would be happy to put it on the blog. Take care and stay safe!
