This blogs sole purpose has transitioned to one of keeping in touch with each other. Over the years it has been primarily for letting everyone know what is happening and also for promotion to add more folks to our Winter Texan family. The core of things has changed and we must change along with it. We still want to know what is happening with our friends no matter where they may be located. So continue to let us know where you are and what is on your plate.

Magnolia Sunday
Well today was the first Sunday for Church in Magnolia for the new season.....It surely seems like a long time since we had Church in the park....The attendance was small to start out as most of the Magnolia Family is still up NORTH and not cold enough to start south yet it seems....That's all right as it won't be too long till they start coming in.....
Pastor Stacy gave a great sermon today to start the season....The lesson today came from the Book of Isaiah , chapter 30, starting with verse 15....The theme was "Don't be Tempted to Return to the Old Ways"....This is talking about how the people were wanting to return to Egypt and the troubles that the Lord had just brought them out of....Pastor was telling us that as the Lord brings his people from troubles in their life, we shouldn't be so ready to return to the past life....A great lesson to study and think on for sure....
As a foot note we were talking today about Eva and Floyd Foote and was wondering just how they were doing.... So if anyone knows please contact Barbara or me so we can let people know...I will be able to write about one more Sunday service before I go to sergery for my second knee....It will be on Monday the 26th...I would aprecciate a little prayer as I under take this....I had prayer for the first one and am doing very well....It has been 6 weeks so time to start again....

Link of the Day: Still Tasty
Although we don't want to endanger anyone with food that is not safe,
some food is safer longer than we realize. At StillTasty, you can learn
the difference between 'sell by,' 'best before.' and 'expires on' dates
and how long something will keep in your fridge or freezer along with
tips for food safety and extending food life spans. The site also has a
large database and a Q&A section.

News to be announced (old)
The Christmas parade is scheduled for Wednesday the 16th at 4:30. Line up the carts at 4:00 with the parade commencing at 4:30. Supper and entertainment to follow in Allen Hall. Rain is scheduled but we hope they are wrong this time.
H.E.B.'s Feast of Sharing is next Saturday the 19th from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM Location is at 200 S Illinois Street in Weslaco. H.E.B. does a fine job of feeding a huge number of their customers every holiday. There will be many of us going from Magnolia park. There always is!!
PS: Old drafts can even be amusing!!
Cock Fighting
We went to a cock fighting area, located behind the street. Many pens of pretty roosters, also some hens with chicks. The man raises the roosters to fight. He sells the roosters for $200! This rooster was swinging on a swing in his pen. The area where they fight was an enclosed ring that looked like a small grain bin. For $200, you better hope your bird lasts longer than a few minutes!!! We did not see them fight, which was fine with most of us!
Kay Voss wrote the above paragraph and I thought it was interesting even without the pictures.
Lois is transported!!
There is a video of Lois Terryn on Facebook. VERY funny. You can find it here.

Drafts
I found a bunch of posts in "drafts". What that means is they did not make it into the blog. Could be many reasons for that; I was interrupted and then forgot, the Internet was not working right for me, I didn't like the looks of it etc. Anyway, I plan to wade through all 40 of them and see if any are worthy of posting. So if you see something and it seems out of context that would be because it was hanging around in drafts.

The parakeet
Last winter Susan and Myron Van Houweling had a parakeet in the tree outside their motorhome. It stayed in the vicinity for several days. Leroy Misfeldt was able to get this picture of the pretty little bird.

Meat Eater: |
This third video is a wonder. This tiny little baby girl is a major eater. I cannot believe the amounts of food she eats. Her parents order her a meal to herself when they eat out and she is 14 months old! Another phenomenon in my book is that she loves meat and eats a ton of it. This third video would make a great commercial for the Iowa Beef Producers. She snitched the steak from her mothers plate.

Dear Magnolia Park Family
Dear Magnolia Park Family....my parents, Dorothy and Dick Hannewald will be celebrating their 85th ( Mom ) and 90th ( Dad ) birthdays on August 6th ( same day, different years ....as Mom reminds us ! ). Since most of their dear friends are scattered all over the country , it would be hard to have a birthday party.....so I thought I would have a " birthday card" party......so if you would like to send them a card on this special day...I know they would love it....I'm keeping this a surprise....they love to get mail....their address is P.O. Box 6...Thompsonville, MI 49683.....Thanks so much in advance....P.S. They became great-great grandparents this week....Ada Marie...6 lbs 10 oz....19 1/2".....short, like the rest of us !!! Hope you are all having a great summer.....! Judie Mathews...( their daughter )

From a park resident- Guess who??
I have found a great recipe for dishwasher soap! I love it, our water is so hard here, even with a softener. It works great, no film on glasses.....
2 cups of Washing Soda
2 cups of Borax
1 cup of salt
4 packs of unsweetened lemonade Koolaide
I'm guessing the Koolaide provides the citric acid needed to keep the film off the glassware. Salt softens or scrubs the dishes? Anyway I am very happy with this, beats Cascade hands down. I used to just use the soda and borax, but it left a film on things.

From Sharon Hvam
Barb
I was finishing up reading the Sunday Star Tribune today when I noticed Dale's obituary in the paper. He and Hazel lived where Larry Ergen now lives in Magnolia Park before they moved to San Juan Gardens(i believe) and I thought many of the long time residents of Magnolia might like to know about this, so wondered if you could post it.
Dale Mohn 83, died Friday, June 24,2011 at Rio Grande Regional Hospital in McAllen,Texas. Inurnment will take place at 1pm Thursday July 14,2011, at Fort Snelling National Cemetary in Minneapolis,Minnesota. A reception honoring the life of Dale will follow the inurnmentat the American Legion in Richfield Mn. It did not give an address for her.
Thanks
Sharon
