This blogs sole purpose has transitioned to one of keeping in touch with each other. Over the years it has been primarily for letting everyone know what is happening and also for promotion to add more folks to our Winter Texan family. The core of things has changed and we must change along with it. We still want to know what is happening with our friends no matter where they may be located. So continue to let us know where you are and what is on your plate.

Spring!

The children appear to be on their cell phones. They were toy phones. The flowers were made by the ladies of the church. Everyone went home with a prize. I won a purse and will take a photo of it and post it soon.

A Church in Matamoros
Saturday I went to Matamoros with Bob and Rose Hendry and Nelson and Mabel Zoet. We had been invited by the Community of Christ Church in Matamoros. The purpose of the visit was to bring donations to the church so they can pay their taxes. It seems the Catholic Church does not have to pay taxes but all others do. Fair or not it is the way it is. There were about 30 of us gringos and many of them had been there many times before. The small congregation was very glad to see us and had made many preparations for us. We were entertained and fed in fine fashion and there were prizes for everyone.

The young pastor of the church is also an engineer. He is pictured below. The baptismal font is on the left. The tables were all set for us. Fred Cole translated for us and them.
Cross the Rio Grande
One of these shows the foot traffic lined up to enter the US, another is the Rio Grande River and the third is an apartment house in Matamoros. The Rio Grande River is quite narrow at Brownsville/Matamoros.
Streets of Matamoros
Many people would not consider going to Matamoros. I did not see many gringos and the ones I did brought questions to mind as to their purpose for being there. Not at all like Nuevo Progreso.

Fish on Fridays
The Weslaco Elks Club is open to the public on Friday nights. They serve a delicious fish and/or shrimp dinner for $7.00. The plate pictured here has double coleslaw and no beans because that was my choice. The proceeds go to Texas disabled children's services and you can be sure this Elk's Club raises a very large sum of money for the children. Great meal too.

We Understand!!
We understand this is how our friends are feeling in the northern regions.
We sympathize...this also means many more will decide to spend next winter with us as this will stay in their memories for a few years.
